Maureen McGrail

Science Content Director, AP-TIP

Maureen McGrail works to help build students’ and teachers’ enthusiasm for science and STEM in their future. She was a mechanical engineer at the BP Refinery in Whiting, IN, for more than a decade before becoming a science educator at Gavit High School in Hammond, IN. She taught at Gavit for nine years, and she was instrumental in bringing AP science to Gavit where she launched and led AP Physics. She received the Hammond Education Foundation Outstanding Educator Award and was a nominee for the Gerald I. Lamkin Innovation and Entrepreneurship Award. During this time, she also worked as an adjunct lecturer at Purdue University Northwest in the Department of Chemistry and Physics. Currently, she serves as Science Content Director for the AP-TIP IN program administered by the Center for STEM Education at the University of Notre Dame. In this position, she provides mentoring and support for over one hundred AP science educators across the state of Indiana. Maureen holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis, MO and a Bachelor of Science in Systems Science/Physics from Providence College in Providence, RI. She is a National Math and Science Initiative (NMSI) certified trainer for Laying the Foundation middle school science and also presents at NMSI student AP review sessions.
